If you want to know the story of The Pawsitive Company, you need to know the story of Lucy.
The story of how one cat became the heart and soul behind a company and a community dedicated to helping pets and pet parents thrive.
Lucy came into my life as a 1-month-old kitten when I was a student at MIT Manipal. Iām Prasannalakshmi Iragani, the founder of The Pawsitive Company, but back then, I was just someone trying to balance college life while caring for a tiny kitten who needed me. Little did I know, Lucy wasnāt just my companionāshe was my partner in a journey I hadnāt even imagined.
Together, we started finding homes for motherless kittens we came across. When we moved to Bangalore so I could pursue my career, we didnāt stop. If anything, our efforts grew stronger. We met passionate rescuers, fostered kittens, and laid the foundation for what would become more than 5 years of dedicated rescue work.
Lucy was no ordinary cat. Most cats are territorial, but not her. Itās as if she knew. She knew that the injured cats and orphaned kittens we brought home needed a safe space to heal. She welcomed over 30 neonatesāmotherless, fragile babiesāand cared for them like they were her own. While we humans bottle-fed the kittens (because, of course, Lucy wasnāt lactating), she gave them the warmth and love they needed to survive.
From feral mothers and paraplegic cats to parvo survivors and helpless neonates, we fostered over 100 cats in our home. And through it all, Lucy was thereāour guiding light.
On September 14, 2021, I lost Lucy to kidney failure. She was only 3.5 years old. The vets told me genetics may have played a role, but as I began to unravel the truth, it became clear: commercial pet food was slowly poisoning our babies. Itās heartbreaking to think that food meant to nourish them could shorten their lifespans and cause irreversible damage.
As a vegetarian, I struggled with the idea of cooking meat for my pets and fosters, but I made a promise: I would never feed them commercial food again. For over a year, I prepared meals at homeāfresh, natural food. But I soon realized that something was missing. Home-cooked meals lacked critical nutrients, and our pets deserve more.
After endless research, trials, and the determination to honor Lucyās legacy, The One Meal was born: a complete and balanced pet food that meets AAFCO standards. Made with fresh, human-grade ingredients, itās everything I wish I could have given Lucyāa meal worthy of family.

Lucyās story may have started it all, but this journey is for every pet out there, and for every pet parent who believes that nothing is too much when it comes to family. Because pets arenāt ājust pets.ā Theyāre our joy, our hope, and our home.
